Software Engineer and Theater Artist
I'm Peter Duerst (he/him), a software engineer and theater artist in the Boston area.
I'm currently looking for a full-time Software Engineer position, ideally in robotics or medical devices.
I'm also looking for part-time technical theater opportunities, especially as a Scenic Carpenter or an Assistant Technical Director.
If you're looking for someone like me for one of those positions, send me an email at peterad12 (at) gmail.com!
Current and Upcoming Work
I'm working as a part-time Software Engineer for the Klein Lab in the Harvard Medical School, updating a legacy Python library.
I'm acting as Antipholus of Ephesus in The Comedy of Errors with the Quannapowitt Players. Show dates are March 22nd through April 7th.
In my free time, I'm working on the website for Petal Quest, the title that my partner and I are using to publish content for Dungeons & Dragons. In particular, we've written a whole new family of dragons: the Prismatic Dragons.
I graduated from MIT in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Theater Arts. I have spent 5 years working in consumer robotics: first at iRobot, then at 10Beauty. I made the difficult choice to leave 10Beauty in September 2023, though I greatly enjoyed my time there. I'm eager to find my next engineering opportunity and make a positive impact on people's lives.
Since September, I've had the opportunity to pursue personal projects (like Petal Quest), do part-time software engineering for the Klein Lab, and return to working in theater. I'm grateful to have had the time to pursue this more independent and varied work, and I'm ready to get back to full-time software engineering!
I love to build things, from robots to theater sets. I also enjoy playing Dungeons & Dragons, acting in community theater, and trying new vegetarian/vegan recipes.
